Â
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –Â
Jay Bant ripped the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 11th inning over the fence in right field and lifted the Monmouth University baseball team to a 5-4 win over the University of Delaware in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday.
Â
Delaware looked to be in action in the top of the second. A single to center looked like it might score a run for the Blue Hens but a strong throw from
Harry Padden to
Brendan Buecker at the plate resulted in the third out.Â
Â
The Hawks responded in their half of the second.
Chris Andrews connected on a leadoff home run to left field and a 1-0 Monmouth advantage.Â
Â
Casey Caufield's one out single in the bottom of the third plated
Brendan Buecker and gave the home team a 2-0 lead.Â
Â
Delaware strung together four hits in the top of the fourth, including a home run from LT Cockrill, and took a 3-2 advantage.Â
Â
Monmouth responded with a two-out two run double from Buecker in the bottom of the fourth and regained the lead, 4-3.Â
Â
The Hawks maintained that one-run advantage until the top of the ninth when Cockrill led off with a game-tying home run.Â
