No. 3 Hawks Take Down No. 6 Drexel in CAA Tournament

ELON, N.C.  – Mateo Bivol's win at first singles clinched a 4-0 victory for the No. 3 Monmouth University men's tennis team over No. 6 Drexel University in the first round of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Friday.

The Hawks battled for the doubles point against the Dragons. Monmouth got a 6-4 win from Bivol and Louis Keller at first doubles before the Dragons took third doubles. In the decisive match that secured the doubles point, Adam Hillerby and Jakob Bonnett secured a 7-5 win
 
The Hawks kept the momentum rolling in singles as they won the first set in five of the six matches. Alex Martinez Sanz put the first point of singles play on the board as he secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles. Louis Keller made it 3-0 in favor of the Hawks with his 6-4, 6-2 win at second singles.
 
Bivol moved the Hawks on to day two with his 7-5, 6-4 win at first singles. He was down a break in the second set and rallied back to clinch the match.

- Monmouth advances to the CAA Semifinals for the second time in three years in the conference. 
- The Hawks are 2-0 against Drexel this season and 3-1 against the Dragons since joining the CAA.
- Monmouth moved to 19-3 with the win. It is the most wins in a season since the 2021-22 squad picked up 20 wins. 
- Adam Hillerby and Jakob Bonnett improved to 15-7 on the year in doubles play with their win.
- Louis Keller picked up his team leading 18th singles victory of the season.
