Bonacci Homers as Monmouth Falls to Princeton

Game 46 Final Score

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Sophomore Izzy Bonacci blasted her first home run of the season and Monmouth plated two runs in the sixth inning, but a late surge by Princeton lifted the visiting Tigers to an 8-2 win on Wednesday afternoon at MU Softball Park.

The Hawks battled throughout and strung together their best offensive frame in the bottom of the sixth. Clare Picone ignited the rally with a single to left, and Bonacci followed with a no-doubt two-run homer to left-center to put Monmouth on the board. The home run was the first of Bonacci's career and brought in her sixth and seventh RBIs of the season.

Isabella Slape added a hit and played error-free defense at second base, while Picone notched her 26th hit of the year and scored for the 14th time. Jayla Cadena and Gianna Stern both reached base as the Hawks worked a pair of walks.

In the circle, Cadena made the start and worked into the fifth before handing the ball to Cadena. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out one, keeping Monmouth within striking distance through the late innings. Only two of Princeton's eight runs were earned, both being charged to Olivia Lewis in 2.1 innings of relief.
