West Long Branch, NJ – Sean Ketchen scored with 1:34 remaining in double overtime to send Monmouth University Men's Lacrosse to a 12-11 win over the University of Delaware on Saturday afternoon.
Ty Caffarelli scored five times, and
Tommy Heller made 17 saves for the Hawks on the day.
Ketchen netted his second of the day with 1:34 remaining in the second overtime to send Monmouth to its second CAA win of the season on a feed from
Brendan Dundas.
Three different Hawks scored in the first quarter, with the game tied at three after 15 minutes. MU scored three consecutive goals in the second, and Caffarelli netted three in the quarter to send MU to the break with a one goal lead, 7-6. The Hawks lead grew to two after three, with another Caffarelli goal in the closing seconds of the third making it 10-8 MU. Delaware tied the game in the fourth, but Ketchen put the Hawks on top, 11-10 with 1:05 remaining. Delaware got even with 23 ticks left to force OT, and neither team scored in the first OT before Ketchen's heroics.
