Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Monmouth Unable to Stop First-Place Drexel's Win Streak

West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth was unable to cool down red-hot Drexel during Thursday's Coastal Athletic Association women's lacrosse game at Kessler Field.

Entering with an eight-game win streak, the visiting Dragons burst out to a 4-0 and remained in control throughout much of a 15-5 victory.

Monmouth's defense was stout in the early going as the two sides battled through a scoreless first 10:13. Drexel's Ellie Wall opened the scoring with 4:47 left in the first quarter and the visitors held a 2-0 advantage after one period.

The Hawks finally broke through 4:20 into the second quarter on an unassisted goal by Sophia Lymberis. Drexel took an 8-1 lead into the break.

Senior Caroline Brennan was responsible for all four of the Hawks' second-half goals. It was the third time this season she has scored at least three times in a game.

Drexel was able to win the position battle by controlling 15 of 23 draws. The visitors also earned 11 free-position opportunities to Monmouth's one.

Monmouth goalie Katie Sullivan, who entered as the NCAA leader in save per game (12.33), turned aside nine shots against Drexel.

Danielle McNeely and Shea Berigan each had two assists apiece for Monmouth. The latter saw her goal streak end at 12 games in a row. Meanwhile, McNeely has recorded at least one points in 11 consecutive appearances.
