WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team controlled the game for three quarters, but a late VMI surge proved to be the difference as the Hawks fell 11-10 at Kessler Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Monmouth built a 10-5 lead late in the third quarter, but VMI stormed back with six unanswered goals, including the game-winner with 4:18 remaining.

Ty Caffarelli led Monmouth with a hat trick, while Brendan Dundas and Connor Gorman each added two goals. Nick Teets, Sean Ketchen, and Jake Schneider also found the back of the net, with five different Hawks recording assists.

Monmouth's defense was solid for much of the game, holding VMI to just five goals through three quarters as Tommy Heller finished with nine saves in the loss to close non-conference play.
