WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team put together its most dominant performance of the season on Wednesday afternoon, cruising to an 18-4 victory over NJIT at Kessler Stadium.
Monmouth set the tone early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before extending its advantage to 10-4 at halftime. The Hawks' defense tightened in the second half, shutting out NJIT while Monmouth's offense continued to roll, scoring eight unanswered goals.
Ty Caffarelli led the charge with four goals, bringing his season total to 10.
Brendan Dundas and
Connor Gorman each added two goals and combined for four assists, while
Sean Ketchen,
Bobby Keane, and
Luke Cole also netted two goals apiece. In total, 10 different Hawks found the back of the net in the win.
On the other end, goalkeeper Tommy Heller made nine saves, while Monmouth's defense forced 20 NJIT turnovers. Faceoff specialists Ethan Cronk and Landon Parker combined for 10 faceoff wins, while Hayden Chester had four caused turnovers. With the win, Monmouth has now won three straight games, improving to .500 on the season.
