Monmouth Suffers CAA Setback in Williamsburg

Williamsburg, VA - Monmouth was unable to rebound from William & Mary's torrid start to Monday's Coastal Athletic Association women's lacrosse matchup, dropping a 17-11 decision.

Contesting their second road game in five days, the Hawks (3-8) watched the host Tribe (5-5) score five of the first six goals to take a 5-1 lead after one quarter. The home team out-shot Monmouth by a 9-4 margin over the opening 15:00.

Monmouth trailed by five goals at halftime. The Hawks thrice pulled to within two scores during the third quarter, but could get no closer.

Junior Shea Berigan scored her second goal with 19 seconds remaining in the third quarter, cutting the Hawks' deficit to 10-8. William & Mary, however, scored three times over the first 4:01 of the fourth quarter, reclaiming control.

Berigan and senior Caroline Brennan both recorded hat tricks for Monmouth. The former has scored multiple goals in 10 consecutive appearances. Sophia Ianno added two goals for the Hawks on Monday. Caleigh Shore, Kate Carolonza and Sophia Lymberis round out Monmouth's list of scorers.

William & Mary took eight more shots than Monmouth and also won eight more ground balls than the visitors.
