EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team edged Mount St. Mary's in a tightly contested battle on Saturday afternoon, securing an 11-10 victory at Waldron Family Stadium.
Ty Caffarelli scored the game-winning goal with 2:22 remaining, lifting the Hawks to their second consecutive road win.
Monmouth took control early, building a 6-4 halftime lead, but Mount St. Mary's stormed back with a five-goal third quarter to go ahead 9-8. The Hawks responded in the final period, with Connor Gorman and Caffarelli scoring key goals to complete the comeback.
Caffarelli and Sean Ketchen each tallied two goals, while Ketchen added a game-high three assists for a five-point performance. Monmouth's balanced offensive attack included goals from Caden Kesselring, Nick Teets, Ryan O'Rourke, Brendan Dundas, Matt Dollive and Landon Parker.
Defensively, goalkeeper Tommy Heller made nine saves, none bigger than his point-blank stop in the final minute, while Monmouth's defense forced 18 Mount St. Mary's turnovers.
With the win, Monmouth has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
