STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, using a dominant second half to pull away for a 16-7 victory over Wagner at Hameline Field.
Monmouth and Wagner were tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but the Hawks began to take control in the second, entering halftime with a 6-4 lead. From there, Monmouth outscored Wagner 10-3 in the second half, including a six-goal fourth quarter to seal the win.
Connor Gorman led the Hawks' attack with a season-high four goals, Nick Teets and Brendan Dundas each added two goals, while eight other Hawks found the back of the net in the win. Ryan O'Rourke, Sean Ketchen, and Jake Schneider each contributed a goal and an assist.
On the other end, Tommy Heller made nine saves in goal, while the Hawks caused nine turnovers as a team, including three from Gabe Bowen-Slott. Faceoff specialists Ethan Cronk, Landon Parker and Mitch Boudreau combined to win 15 of 26 at the X.
