Chris Walsh scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth which lifted the Monmouth University baseball team to a 7-6 win over the University of Pittsburgh at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Hawks picked up their first win over an ACC program since 2016 and snapped a four-game losing streak in the process.Â

Pitt took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.Â
Â
The Hawks responded with three runs in the top of the third for a 3-1 advantage.
Casey Caufield had a two-run double in the frame for the Hawks.Â

The Panthers answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and took a 4-3 edge.Â

Sac flies from
Kenny Noe and
Chris Walsh in the top of the fourth put Monmouth back on top, 5-4.

Pitt scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and reclaimed the lead, 6-5.

In the top of the eighth,
Chris Andrews reached on an error and came around to score on
Brendan Buecker's sac fly. That tied the game at 6-6.

After
Derek Benzinger worked around a one-out walk in the bottom half of the frame, the Hawks went to work in the top of the ninth. Walsh reached on a single to start the frame and moved to third with two outs. With
Jay Bant at the plate, Pitt unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Walsh to score the go-ahead run.Â

Benzinger allowed a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth before retiring the final two batters to secure the 7-6 win.
NOTES
-Â Monmouth picked up its first ever win over Pittsburgh in four tries.
- It was Monmouth's first win over an ACC program since the Hawks beat Virginia in 2016 and second overall.

Kenny Noe made his first career start and responded with a run scored and an RBI.

Derek Benzinger pitched 3.2 innings, his longest outing as a Hawk.
- The Monmouth pitchers combined for six strikeouts in the game, it was the fifth time this season the Hawks have recorded at least five strikeouts in a contest.  Â
