Monmouth Drops Tight Non-Conference Contest to Columbia

West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth was unable to recover from a 5-0 second-half run by visiting Columbia in Saturday's non-conference women's lacrosse game at Kessler Field.

Behind three goals and two assists from Dani Falcone, the road team held on for an 11-8 victory at the Jersey Shore.

After Monmouth's Maddie Flynn tied the game at 6-6 only 3:23 into the second half, Columbia took control by scoring three times within a 2:12 span. The visitors were responsible for the final four goals of the third quarter and took their largest lead at 11-6 by opening the fourth-quarter scoring.

Danielle McNeely and Brenna McCafferty responded by scoring back-to-back goals, but the Hawks could claw no closer. Led by Shea Berigan, seven different players scored goals for Monmouth. It was the third game in a row that Berigan recorded multiple goals.

After Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Monmouth scored the next four goals to take a 4-3 advantage with 3:26 left in the first quarter.

The Hawks out-shot the Lions by a 31-25 margin, but goalie Ava Kimche stopped 12 of the home team's 20 attempts on net. Monmouth's Ally Major caused 3 of Columbia's 19 turnovers.
