After Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Monmouth scored the next four goals to take a 4-3 advantage with 3:26 left in the first quarter.
The Hawks out-shot the Lions by a 31-25 margin, but goalie Ava Kimche stopped 12 of the home team's 20 attempts on net. Monmouth's Ally Major caused 3 of Columbia's 19 turnovers.
