Monmouth Handles Marist in Non-Conference Road Win

Pougheepsie, NY - Monmouth women's lacrosse never trailed en-route to its first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon in the Hudson Valley.

On the road against MAAC member Marist, the Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 first-quarter lead and completed a 9-5 victory at Tenney Stadium. Monmouth's Shea Berigan led all players with four goals. She took nine shots and won four ground balls.

Continuing her hot start to the season, Berigan was responsible for all three of the Hawks' second-half goals on Wednesday. After Marist pulled to within 6-5 on Kate Gaven's tally 5:09 into a the third quarter, Berigan answered by scoring three unanswered goals.

Berigan, who leads the team with 14 goals in February, has scored 2+ goals four games in a row.

Kate Carolonza was Monmouth's other multi-goal scorer against Marist, rattling the cage once in the first quarter and once more in the second. Sophia Ianno, Carolina Brennan and Sara Curley all found the back of the net for the Hawks.

Monmouth's defense limited Marist to 21 shots. Goalie Katie Sullivan was credited with seven saves in the victory.

Berigan led the Hawks with four ground balls while Danielle McNeely controlled a team-high four draws.
