PHILADELPHIA – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team fell behind early and was unable to recover in a 12-3 decision at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday afternoon.
Saint Joseph's took control early, scoring five goals in the first quarter to build a lead it would not relinquish. Monmouth got on the board to make it 2-1 with a goal from
Nick Teets, and
Ty Caffarelli added two goals, both on the man-up unit, but the St. Joe's defense was stout throughout.
Monmouth's defense had stretches of solid play, particularly in the second quarter, when it held the home side to just one goal. Goalie
Tommy Heller finished with 15 saves, continuing his strong early-season form. The Hawks also forced 18 turnovers, disrupting Saint Joseph's attack at times in the contest.
At the faceoff X, Landon Parker went 7-for-12, helping Monmouth regain possession, particularly in the second half.
Game Notes
The game was the 10th meeting all-time between the two teams.
The Hawks wore their midnight navy helmets with midnight navy jerseys and shorts.
