New Hampshire Snaps No. 6/7 Monmouth’s Six-Game Win Streak

Final Score
New Hampshire (6-4,4-2) - 34
#6/7 Monmouth (8-2, 5-1 CAA) – 13

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The New Hampshire Wildcats came into Kessler Stadium and defeated the No. 6/7 Monmouth, 34-14, snapping a six-game win streak for the Hawks, on Saturday afternoon.

Monmouth drew first blood when quarterback Frankie Weaver connected with Jack Neri on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 3:24 remaining in the first quarter to give the Hawks an early 7-0 lead.

The Wildcats responded in the second quarter, scoring on a 13-yard run by Matt Vezza to knot the game at 7-7. Josh Derry hauled in his UNH capitalized on field-goal opportunities, converting from 31 and 53 yards before halftime to take a 13-7 lead.

After halftime, New Hampshire seized control. On its first third-quarter possession the Wildcats covered 75 yards in 10 plays as Myles Thomason capped the drive with a 22-yard touchdown run to give the visitors a 20-13 edge. Just over a minute later, Vezza found Denzell Gibson on a 27-yard touchdown pass, and it was 27-13 after three quarters.

In the fourth, the Wildcats added a final insurance score when Ryan Blagg caught a 12-yard pass from Vezza to extend the lead to 34-13. That proved to be the final margin.

Head Coach Kevin Callahan Quotes
It wasn't the type of performance that we had hoped for today, and not by a long shot, and I don't think there's any aspect of the game where we really put our best foot forward. That includes my decisions as a head coach and all the way down through every aspect, every player on our team. We do have two games left, and it's going to be very important we go out and try to gain a little bit of respect back." – On today's loss

They are a good team. They have a lot of talented players, and they have a very rich football tradition. They've been one of the marquee programs in the CAA for a number of years now, and we just haven't caught up to them yet." – On what makes New Hampshire so tough
