BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Despite an explosive performance from
Damaris Rodriguez, the Monmouth University Women's Basketball Team fell 76-67 in a hard-fought battle against Campbell on Friday night at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena.
Â
Rodriguez was the catalyst for Monmouth's offense, pouring in a game-high 25 points on an efficient 10-for-18 shooting, including a season-high five three-pointers. She also contributed eight assists and a steal in a stellar all-around performance.
Taisha Exanor provided a strong supporting effort with 11 points and five rebounds, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.
Â
Monmouth controlled the tempo early, jumping out to a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks continued to find their rhythm in the second, shooting 42.9% from the field while holding Campbell to 33.3% shooting, as the Hawks held a 28-26 lead at halftime.
Â
The Hawks extended their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Camels 20-18 behind efficient shooting.
Belle Kranbuhl made her presence felt inside, finishing with eight points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Monmouth's ball movement was a key factor, as the team finished with 15 assists on 27 made field goals.
Â
However, Campbell mounted a late rally in the fourth quarter, erupting for 32 points and shooting 69.2% from the field in the final period. Campbell's timely three-point shooting, hitting seven from deep in the fourth quarter alone, proved to be the difference.
