WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – On opening night of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) season, the Hofstra Pride defeated the Monmouth University Women's Basketball Team at the OceanFirst Bank Center, 75-67.

Senior guard Damaris Rodriguez finished with a team high 23 points – her second performance this season with 20+ – despite the loss, which snaps a five-game win streak overall for the Blue & White.

Junior forward Ella Farrelly finished a career high 12 points. She led all scorers with 10 on 5-of-6 shooting after one quarter of play where the Hawks led 22-16. Hofstra answered by outscoring the Hawks 19-9 in the second quarter, aided by a 10-1 run and a halfcourt buzzer-beating three to take a 35-31 lead into halftime.

The Hawks responded with a 10-0 run in the third to retake the lead, 44-43. Jaye Haynes, who finished with 13 points, sparked a 10-0 run. After a timeout, the Pride closed the quarter on a 15-2 run and led 58-47.

Rodriguez netted the first six points in the fourth quarter to pull Monmouth within seven, but that was as close as Hofstra would allow the Hawks to get. Freshman forward LaNae' Corbett led all scorers with 26 points to help improve the Pride to a 1-0 start in CAA play.
