WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A pair of goals from
Erik Reis helped the Monmouth University men's soccer team secure a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Stony Brook University in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opener on Saturday night.Â

The first 10 minutes of the match were a back-and-forth battle as both teams had their chances.

Monmouth broke through with contest's first goal in the 11th minute. The Hawks played the ball into the box as Reis' first shot was stopped by the Stony Brook keeper. The rebound came right back to Reis who fired home the shot for a 1-0 advantage.Â

The Hawks and Seawolves continued to push the tempo as both sides had their chances. Monmouth forced Rushon Sandy to make a pair of saves.Â

Monmouth carried the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.Â

Eryk Dymora made three big saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half which allowed the home team to maintain their advantage.Â

Reis added to the Monmouth lead at 67:58 of the second half. He intercepted a ball at midfield and raced up and into the box to score his second of the night.Â

Stony Brook cut into the Monmouth lead with a goal in the 75th minute.Â

The Hawks continued to apply the pressure but were unable to add on to the lead. A late foul set up a free kick for Stony Brook in the final minute of the contest. The Seawolves were able to slip on past the Monmouth defense and the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.
