Jordan Torney Elevated to Monmouth's Head Coach For Track & Field

September 18, 2024

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University has elevated Jordan Torney to Acting Head Coach For Track & Field, it was announced Wednesday.

"I am confident in Jordan's ability to lead this program," said Jennifer Sansevero, Monmouth's Director of Athletics. "His ability to connect with our student-athletes and his experience as a high-level student-athlete himself make him the ideal coach to lead us into the future."

Returning home after graduating from University of Connecticut, the New Jersey-born Torney has completed two years as Monmouth's sprints and hurdles coach. The former NCAA Division I decathlete landed in West Long Branch in August 2022

This past spring, Torney coached 400 hurdler Yasmeen Tinsley to a spot in the Division I national quarterfinals. Tinsley also set Monmouth's program record in the 100 hurdles. On the men's side, David Strong posted the second-highest Decathlon point total in Hawks' history.

In the classroom, both Monmouth's men's and women's teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic status for holding cumulative grade-point averages over the 3.0 mark.

"I am both honored and excited to be given the opportunity to lead the Monmouth Hawks as the Acting Head Coach of Track and Field," said Torney reacting to the promotion. "We plan to raise the competitiveness of our program and continue our upward trajectory in the CAA. We have an experienced staff and I'm excited to achieve great things this year at the Jersey Shore!"

As a student-athlete, Torney won two Big East Conference Championships in the decathlon and captured the 2019 IC4A crown. He graduated with a 3.75 grade-point average. Prior to his UConn career, Torney competed for Shore Conference member Manchester Township High School.
