NEWARK, Del. – The Monmouth University baseball team fell to the University of Delaware, 16-5 on Saturday afternoon in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series finale. Despite the loss, the Hawks grabbed their second straight CAA series win, 2-1.

Delaware jumped out to an early lead in the contest with three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Hawks started chipping away at the deficit in the top of the third. Monmouth loaded the bases on a double, a single and a walk to start the frame.Â

After Delaware got the first out and made a pitching change,
Harry Padden ripped the second pitch he saw into left for a double.
Wyatt Hunt and
Brendan Buecker scored, which made it a 3-2 game.Â

After Delaware got another run in the bottom half of that frame, the Hawks answered back into the top of the fourth.Â

Monmouth loaded the bases with no outs before Buecker lifted a sac fly to center that scored
Chris Andrews.
Chris Walsh came home on a wild pitch that tied the game at 4-4.

Delaware sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and took an 11-4 lead in the game.Â

The Blue Hens added five more runs in the eighth for a 16-4 lead.Â

Monmouth got one more run in the top of the ninth.
Dan Maglio had a pinch-hit one out single and came around to score on Padden's RBI single. That made the final score 16-5 in favor of the Blue Hens.

- Delaware moves to 9-7 all-time against the Hawks.

Harry Padden finished with a pair of base knocks and extended his hit streak to four straight games. It was the third time in the last four games that he has recorded two hits in a game. Â

Phil Stahl had three hits on the day and has now hit safely in nine straight games. It's a season-long hit streak for Stahl.Â
