Monmouth Signs Guard Damaris Rodriguez

May 29, 2024

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Women's Basketball Head Coach Cait Wetmore officially announced the signing of guard Damaris Rodriguez.

"Damaris is a proven competitor," Wetmore stated. "Her accolades speak for themselves, and she's had a great career to this point. We are excited for her to join us here at Monmouth, and we know she will bring experience and grit. She has worked hard for everything she's achieved, and that fighting spirit is exactly what I was looking for to join this team."

Rodriguez was the leading scorer in all four seasons she spent at Division III New Jersey City University and became the program's all-time leading scorer this past year with 1,918 career points. She was the nation's leading scorer while averaging 24.3 points per contest as a junior in 2022-23, while making 87 career starts as a four-year captain.

The Secaucus native was no stranger to major accolades during her time as a Gothic Knight. In addition to earning D3hoops.com All-America Second Team honors twice, Rodriguez was an All-Region Team member four times, a two-time All-Met Division III Player of the Year, two-time NJAC Player of the Year, four-time All-Met First Team, three-time All-ECAC Division III First Team, and four-time First Team All-NJAC. She was the NJAC and D3hoops.com All-Atlantic/Mid-Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year after shooting 40.9% from the floor and 43.1% from three in 2020-21. Rodriguez has received National Player of the Week honors five times in her career and was the conference's Player of the Week 16 times.

Rodriguez helped lead the Gothic Knights to NJAC titles in three of her four seasons. In three career games versus Division I opponents, she averaged 27.3 points with a 50% (11-for-22) mark from three-point range. Those numbers include a 33-point outburst on November 10, 2022, versus Monmouth in West Long Branch where she knocked down 14 field goals in 35 minutes played.
