CHERRY HILL, N.J.  – The Monmouth University women's rowing team captured its first-ever medals at the 2024 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday as the Freshman 8+ won silver and the Varsity Pair claimed bronze on the Cooper River.

The Hawks had four boats compete at the 85th running of the Dad Vail Regatta with each turning in strong performances across the board. The Freshman 8+ combined to hold off boats from Delaware, Temple, Penn State and Army West Point when they crossed the finish line in 7:49.382, behind first-place Wisconsin. 
 
Monmouth's first competitive Varsity Pair boat of Kaitlyn Rice and Grace Hutchinson shined in their debut by placing third overall. The duo finished with a time of 9:43.745 behind William and Mary and Pitt, who took the top two spots. 
 
Monmouth grabbed the top spots in both of its Petite Finals as it won the Varsity 4+ in 8:26.165 and the 2nd Varsity 4+ in 8:45.286.
 
In total, more than 300 boats from 70 colleges raced in the two-day event.

"Our first ever Dad Vail Regatta was a tremendous experience for this entire team.  All four of our boats took a big step forward in their approach to championship racing. This was punctuated by a Finals day where we fought our way to the podium twice and won two 2nd finals.
