Monmouth’s Ginny Boggess Accepts Head Coaching Position at Toledo

April 09, 2024

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Head Women's Basketball Coach Ginny Boggess has accepted the same position at the University of Toledo, the University announced Tuesday. Boggess led Monmouth Women's Basketball to unprecedented success in her three seasons, highlighted by her historic run through the 2023 CAA Tournament, culminating in the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 40 years.

"We are so proud of Ginny and want to congratulate her on this next opportunity," said Monmouth Director of Athletics Jennifer Sansevero. "Ginny had a significant positive impact on Monmouth University, our women's basketball program and our student-athletes. We are thankful for the job she did in elevating our program. She established a championship culture for Monmouth Women's Basketball on and off the court."

Boggess' turnaround of the program came immediately, as she led the 2021-22 Hawks to a 12-win improvement following a two-win campaign prior to her arrival. Boggess mentored six players to all-conference honors in three years, including Jania Hall earning CAA Sixth Player of the Year this past season.

Boggess put her stamp on the program in her second season, Monmouth's first as a member of the CAA. The Hawks defeated the top three seeds in the league in consecutive days to win the conference and clinch a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1983. This led MU to its first winning record since 2012, and propelled the Hawks to a CAA title and trip to Bloomington, Ind., for the NCAA Tournament.

This past year, Boggess led Monmouth to a 20-win season for the sixth time in program history and first since 2011 and earned the Hawks an automatic berth into the WNIT. MU won its first postseason game since 1983 by defeating Buffalo in the tournament's opening round. The Hawks also secured the No. 2 seed in the CAA, the best regular-season finish for a Monmouth team since 2011. Boggess secured a win over Big East member St. John's and also set a program record with 13-straight road victories, the third-longest streak in the nation at that point.

"Our women's basketball program has reached new heights, and the standard of excellence has been established," said Sansevero. "I look forward to the future of our program as we continue to compete for championships. I am confident we will find the next great leader for the Monmouth Women's Basketball program."

A national search is currently underway for the program's next head coach.
