NEWARK, Del. – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team lost its season finale to Delaware by a 17-10 final score on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
The Hawks jumped out to a 6-3 lead after the first quarter, behind a pair of goals each by
Maddie Flynn and
Shea Berigan.
Danielle McNeely closed the quarter with her first of four tallies before Delaware responded with 12 unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. The Blue Hens scored three times in the second quarter to tie the game at intermission before a nine-goal third gave them a 15-6 lead.
Caroline Brennan put in her second goal of the day to stop the Delaware run early in the fourth quarter and McNeely tacked on two goals before the Hawks ultimately fell by the seven-goal margin.
Game Notes
Danielle McNeely equaled her season high with four goals and finished the year with 30 goals. It was her fourth hat trick of the 2024 season.
Caroline Brennan,
Maddie Flynn and
Shea Berigan each scored twice in the game.
Brennan ended her season with a team-best 41 goals and closed her junior year with 125 career goals.
Brennan moved into sole possession of 10th place in program history in career goals and passed Alexa Smith (2015-18).
Flynn and Berigan each ended their seasons with 18 goals.
Katie Sullivan made 10 saves, her 11th double-digit save performance this season. Her 166 saves ranked eighth on the Monmouth single-season list.
Mya Brock had three assists and Brennan had two in the game.
Brock finished the year with a team-high 50 points.
McNeely,
Sophia Ianno and
Shannon Feeley each had three caused turnovers. McNeely and Feeley had four ground balls each.
Shots favored Delaware, 37-31, including 27-20 in shots on goal.
Draw controls went to the Blue Hens, 22-9.
Delaware leads the all-time series against Monmouth, 8-0.
