Monmouth Falls in Series Finale at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern scored five times in its final three innings to break open a one-run game and secure a 7-2 victory over the Monmouth University baseball team in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series finale on Sunday.
 
Northeastern scored first in this one with a run in the bottom of the first. 
 
The Hawks had the answer in the top of the second. Austin Denlinger was hit by a pitch leading off and moved to third on Phil Stahl's base hit. Wyatt Hunt lifted a sac fly to center field that allowed Denlinger to score. 
 
Northeastern went back on top with a one-out run in the bottom of the third. 
 
The Huskies extended their lead to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. 
 
Monmouth pulled to within two with a run in the top of the seventh. Harry Padden led off with a single and eventually came around to score on Stahl's groundout. 
 
The Hawks looked like they might have something cooking in the eighth as they had two runners on with one out but Northeastern got a double play to get out of the inning. 
 
Northeastern scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth and claimed the 7-2 win.

NOTES 
- Northeastern moved to 7-1 all-time against the Hawks. 
- Harry Padden has hit in four straight games and 15 of 17 games this season.
- Padden has reached base safely in 13 straight games for the Hawks.
- Phil Stahl has hit safely in five of his last six contests and now has 98 career hits for the Hawks. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Northeastern outhit the Hawks, 7-4 in the game.   
- Wyatt Scotti got the win for Northeastern as he went six innings and allowed two runs with five strikeouts. 
- Kevin Opanel took the loss for Monmouth as he surrendered four runs on three hits in 5.1 innings of action.
