Balanced Attack Leads Monmouth Past Hofstra for 11th Straight Road Win

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 66 (19-8, 12-4 CAA)
Hofstra 50 (9-18, 3-13 CAA)

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A balanced offensive attack and another strong defensive performance led the Monmouth University women's basketball team to a 66-50 win at Hofstra University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday.

The Hawks ran their current win streak to five straight games and their road win streak to 11 straight games with the win.

The two sides went back-and-forth to start the first period. With the game tied at 6-6, Taisha Exanor converted a traditional three-point play for the Hawks. That kick started a 13-0 run by the visitors to end the period and allowed Monmouth to take a 19-6 lead after one.

The Hawks and Pride traded points to start the second period. A three-pointer from Rosalie Mercille at 2:14 gave the Hawks a 30-12 lead. The two sides continued to battle as Monmouth took a 32-15 lead at the break.

Hofstra opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run and cut the Monmouth lead to nine, 32-23 with 7:02 to go. Monmouth responded with a 10-2 run of its own and pushed its lead back to 17, 42-25 with 4:18 to go in the period. A driving lay-up from Jania Hall as time expired in the third gave the visitors a 54-34 advantage with 10 minutes to play.

A driving lay-up from Ariana Vanderhoop at 2:54 of the fourth period gave Monmouth its largest lead of the game, 66-40. Hofstra closed the game on a 10-0 run as Monmouth claimed the 66-50 win.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Really proud of our continued toughness on the road. There is so much fight in these Hawks and you can feel how important it is to them. We had a bunch of players step up and play out of position due to injuries. We will keep showing up one day at a time and try our best to out team the other team."
