Ariana Vanderhoop scored a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough as Duquesne University hit the go-ahead bucket with 21 seconds to play in overtime and secured a 69-65 win over the Monmouth University women's basketball team in the second round of the WNIT Monday.

With Duquesne leading 7-6 in the first period, the Hawks went on an 8-3 run and grabbed a 14-10 lead after one.

Jania Hall each drained a three pointer for the Hawks in that stretch.Â

Duquesne scored the first six points of the second period and led 16-14 with 8:10 showing on the clock. The two sides battled and found themselves tied at 18-18. Monmouth went on a 7-0 run and took an 25-18 lead with 2:38 to go before the break. Vanderhoop had a three-point play in that stretch. Duquesne scored the final six points of the period, but Monmouth led 25-24 at the break.Â

The Hawks and Dukes went back-and-forth to start the third quarter.
Ella Farrelly's three-pointer at 4:20 tied the game at 35-35. With the contest tied at 39-39, Monmouth went on a 5-2 run and took a 44-41 lead after three.Â

Monmouth scored seven of the first 12 points in the fourth quarter and led 51-46 with 5:51 to play. Vanderhoop had four points in that stretch for the Hawks. The two sides continued to trade baskets over the next several minutes. A
Kayla Richardson bucket at 3:42 put the visitors ahead 55-49. Another bucket from Vanderhoop at 1:03 put Monmouth on top, 59-51. It was Monmouth's largest lead of the game. Duquesne closed out the final period of regulation on a 9-1 run and tied the game at 60-60. Lauren Wasylson scored all nine points for the Dukes.

Meghan McConnell scored three of the first five Duquesne points in overtime and gave the home team a 65-62 lead with 3:20 to go.
Kaci Donovan made 1-of-2 from the foul line and Hall got a pull-up jump shot to fall for the Hawks with 42 seconds left. That tied the game at 65-65. Amaya Hamilton pulled down an offensive rebound and scored the go-ahead basket with 21 seconds left. The Hawks had one more chance but Monmouth was called for a foul giving the ball back to Duquesne. Wasylson hit two more free throws to close out the 69-65 win for Duquesne.Â

- The Hawks finished with six blocks in the game, bringing their season total to 187. That broke the school record for single-season blocks previously held by the 1986-87 team that had 186. The Hawks rank seventh in single-season history at the CAA for blocks.Â
