WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Hampton Lady Pirates scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to help defeat the Monmouth University Softball Team by a score of 10-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon at MU Softball Park.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning behind to a two-run third. Friday's hero,
Dani Dabroski, singled following a
Lexi Castaneda walk to put two runners on base for
Mackenzie Bloss. Castaneda and Dabroski double stole, and both moved up an extra 60 feet when the throw from Hampton's catcher sailed into left field. The very next pitch, Bloss lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score the Dabroski.
Starting pitcher
Ana Rodriguez got the first two outs in the fourth but was lifted after a long at-bat that ended in a walk. The next five Hampton hitters all reached base, including a grand slam by third baseman Brooke Williams as the Lady Pirates suddenly led, 7-2.
Hampton pushed three more runs across in the sixth off of freshman
Olivia Lewis, and finished off the bottom of the fifth quietly to secure the 10-2 run-rule victory – their first win in the CAA this season.
