Monmouth's Comeback Bid Falls Short at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJRider scored the game's first six goals and responded to multiple runs by the Monmouth University women's lacrosse team in an eventual 12-10 victory for the Broncs on Tuesday evening at Ben Cohen Field. 

Facing a 7-1 deficit late in the first quarter, Caroline Brennan scored the second of her three goals to ignite a 5-0 run for the Hawks heading into halftime. Rider answered with the first three goals of the second half before Danielle McNeely pulled the Hawks within one to open the fourth quarter scoring and cap a 3-0 Monmouth spurt. 

McNeely completed her hat trick to once again make it a one-goal affair, with 6:05 to play, but Rider found the back of the net less than a minute later and completed the scoring.

Maddie Flynn scored a hat trick for Monmouth, while Mya Brock added one goal in the loss.

Monmouth dropped to 3-2 on the season.
The game was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Hawks played their fifth of five consecutive road games to open the season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
Caroline Brennan, Danielle McNeely and Maddie Flynn each had hat tricks in the game.
McNeely registered her sixth career hat trick and second in as many games. She had a team-high four caused turnovers and also added an assist. 
Brennan increased her season total to 16 goals and scored the 100th goal of her career. Brennan became the 16th Hawk to reach the 100-goal milestone.
Flynn's hat trick was her first of the year and the second of her career.
Mya Brock is tied for third on the team with 13 points after her four-point night (1G, 3A).
Shannon Feeley led Monmouth with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Gia Mitchell made eight saves in goal for Monmouth.
Monmouth converted 3-of-8 free position opportunities. 
Rider outshot Monmouth 33-30, including 24-21 in shots on goal.
Draw controls favored the Broncs, 17-9.
Rider earned 10 free position shots, while Monmouth had three.

Monmouth is set to host Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium. Opening draw from Kessler Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast live on FloSports.
