Monmouth Falls in Series Finale at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – Austin Denlinger had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the Monmouth University baseball team in a 10-1 loss to Mercer University on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Mercer hit three home runs in the first four innings and opened up a 6-0 lead in the game. Two of the home runs came off the bat of Parker Lester. 
 
Monmouth got a run back in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Casey Caufield had an infield single to short. Caufield came around to score on Denlinger's triple to right center. 
 
The Bears scored four more runs, including three in the seventh to close out the 10-1 win.

NOTES
- Casey Caufield has hit in three straight games and six of the first seven games.
- James Harmstead stretched his current hit streak to three straight games.   
- Harry Padden has hit in three straight games and six of the first seven games.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Mercer out hit the Hawks, 12-7 on the day. 
- Joey DeMucci threw out a pair of runners trying to steal second. 
- Garrett Lambert started for Mercer and earned the win as he went five innings and allowed just one run on six hits. 
- Kevin Opanel took the loss for the Hawks as he surrendered six runs in four innings. 
- Jimmy Wigo threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Hawks and struck out two.

Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 2 as the Hawks travel to Baltimore, Maryland to take on Rider and UMBC.
