MONMOUTH HOLDS OFF COLUMBIA IN 13-12 VICTORY

NEW YORK, NYIn a tight game from the start, the Monmouth University women's lacrosse team came away with a one-goal victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon at Kraft Stadium. 

Three different Hawks scored hat tricks in the win as Shea Berigan, Danielle McNeely and Grace Curtin each contributed three goals. In goal, Katie Sullivan totaled double digit saves for the second consecutive game as Monmouth held off a late Lions rally in the 13-12 victory.

The Hawks led by as many as three goals surrounding the start of the fourth quarter, before the host side cut the deficit to one with four minutes to play. Clinging to a one-goal lead, the Hawks received two cards in the final four minutes, but were able to force a late turnover on the Lions and preserve the victory.

Monmouth improved to 3-1 on the season.
Monmouth leads the all-time series against Columbia 6-2, including four consecutive wins. It was Monmouth's third one-goal victory in the series.
The Hawks played their fourth of five consecutive road games to open the season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
Shea Berigan, Danielle McNeely and Grace Curtin each had hat tricks in the game.
Berigan's hat trick was her second of the year and fourth of her career.
McNeely recorded her fifth career hat trick and added four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Curtin registered her second hat trick of the season and is second on the team with 10 goals. Curtin also paced the Hawks with five draw controls in the game.
Mary Kate George led the Hawks with four caused turnovers and scored a goal as time expired in the first half. George also added an assist in the win.
Liv Fanelli and Sophia Ianno each had a goal and an assist.
Caroline Brennan scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Katie Sullivan made 10 saves in goal for Monmouth, her second double-digit save performance of the year. Sullivan also had a team-best three ground balls.
Monmouth converted 3-of-8 free position opportunities. 
Columbia outshot Monmouth 31-28, including 22-18 in shots on goal.
Draw controls favored the Hawks, 17-11.

Monmouth completes its five game road trip on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Rider for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Broncs.
