PISCATAWAY, NJThe Monmouth University women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2024 season, falling 11-7, to No. 24 ranked Rutgers on Wednesday evening at SHI Stadium. 

The Scarlet Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime and led 6-0 early in the third quarter before Danielle McNeely got Monmouth on the board with an unassisted tally. McNeely's goal sparked a 5-2 Monmouth run that pulled the Hawks within three early in the fourth quarter. 

Rutgers responded from that point and put the game out of reach by scoring the next three goals to regain a six-goal advantage at 11-5.

Monmouth fell to 2-1 on the year.

Mya Brock led Monmouth in scoring with her eighth career hat trick and added an assist.  
Grace Curtin had her second multi-goal performance of the year and increased her season total to seven goals.
Danielle McNeely had a goal and an assist in addition to four draw controls.
Sophia Lymberis netted her second goal of the season.
Caroline Brennan registered her third multi-point game of the season with two assists.
Shannon Feeley led the Hawks with five ground balls.
Ally Major had a team-best three caused turnovers.
Monmouth converted 1-of-4 free position opportunities. 
Rutgers outshot Monmouth 39-31, including 28-14 in shots on goal.
Draw controls favored Rutgers, 10-8.
