NEWARK, NJ – Luke Cole had four points and
Ty Caffarelli scored three goals, but Monmouth University Men's Lacrosse fell at NJIT in overtime Wednesday night, 14-13.
After the Highlanders took a 3-1 lead, MU ripped off four straight to lead 5-3. With the game tied late in the second quarter, Caffarelli answered an NJIT goal in just eight seconds to send MU to the break with a 6-5 lead.
Monmouth opened the third quarter with four of the first five goals, with four different Hawks converting to make it a 10-6 MU lead. Cole scored twice in the third, but a goal in the closing seconds by NJIT's Jack Bowie made it 11-9 going to the fourth. Caffarelli put MU up 13-10 with 7:09 to go, but the Highlanders scored three in a row to send it to overtime, where Ryan Sininsky won it at 2:54 of the extra session.
