MONMOUTH MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS AT NJIT IN OVERTIME, 14-13

NEWARK, NJ – Luke Cole had four points and Ty Caffarelli scored three goals, but Monmouth University Men's Lacrosse fell at NJIT in overtime Wednesday night, 14-13.
 
After the Highlanders took a 3-1 lead, MU ripped off four straight to lead 5-3. With the game tied late in the second quarter, Caffarelli answered an NJIT goal in just eight seconds to send MU to the break with a 6-5 lead.
 
Monmouth opened the third quarter with four of the first five goals, with four different Hawks converting to make it a 10-6 MU lead. Cole scored twice in the third, but a goal in the closing seconds by NJIT's Jack Bowie made it 11-9 going to the fourth. Caffarelli put MU up 13-10 with 7:09 to go, but the Highlanders scored three in a row to send it to overtime, where Ryan Sininsky won it at 2:54 of the extra session.
 
NOTES
 
-Luke Cole tallied a career best four points, including his second career two-goal game.
-Ty Caffarelli scored three times, his sixth career game with three or more goals.
-Caden Kesselring scored his first goal of the season.
-Matt Dollive netted his first goal as a Hawk.
-Sean Ketchen scored in the third straight game to open the season.
-Brendan Dundas posted his second three-point game in three contests to open his career.
-Ethan Cronk became the third Hawk in program history to pick up nine or more ground balls in a game, and it was the 16th game in which a Hawk had nine or more.
-This was MU's first overtime game since March 4, 2022 at Mount St. Mary's.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth outshot NJIT 43-35.
-The Hawks were 2-5 on man-up opportunities.
-MU had 30 ground balls to NJIT's 25.
-The Hawks were a perfect 20-20 on clears.
-Monmouth did not commit a penalty on the night.
