Billie Kerwood struck out nine hitters during a complete game shutout as the Monmouth University Softball Team defeated USC Upstate, 4-0, in the second game of its Friday doubleheader at the Winthrop Eagle Classic.

It marks the second shutout of Kerwood's career and first of 2024.
Monmouth used a four-run fourth inning to give Kerwood plenty of run support for the win.
Mackenzie Bloss started the scoring by driving in
Savannah Simons with an RBI single up the middle.
Devin Coia then brought
Dani Dabroski home on a fielder's choice, and
Bri Lawson made it 3-0 when she squeezed home Bloss on a bunt. Running for Coia,
Giana Scotti scored the fourth and final run for the Hawks on a wild pitch.
Monmouth's second win of the season came after an 11-2 loss in five innings to Appalachian State in the morning.
Abby Warner hit a solo home run and
Bri Lawson hit an RBI single, but the Mountaineers used a three-run first and a six-run fourth to win their first game of the season.
