MONMOUTH RUNS PAST BRYANT IN 2024 OPENER


SMITHFIELD, RI Monmouth University opened its 2024 season with a decisive 22-12 victory over Bryant on Saturday afternoon at Beirne Stadium. 

Caroline Brennan scored six times and added a pair of assists, Grace Curtin had four goals plus an assist, while Shea Berigan contributed a hat trick as nine different Hawks registered at least one point in the win. Gia Mitchell made 10 saves in goal for the Hawks on the other end. 

Monmouth controlled the action from the start as it built a 3-0 lead and went into the second quarter with a 9-3 advantage. Bryant responded to pull within 10-7 before the Hawks put in 10 consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.

Monmouth won its season-opening contest for the sixth consecutive year.
Monmouth leads the all-time series against Bryant, 4-2, including two straight wins. 
The game was the first between the two sides since 2013. 
Six different Hawks made their Monmouth debuts in the game; Sophia Ianno, Sophia Lymberis, Kayla Wehberg, Sara Curley, Ayiana Brown and Caleigh Shore.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
Caroline Brennan equaled her career high with six goals. 
Grace Curtin set new career highs in goals (4) and points (5).
Shea Berigan recorded her third career hat trick.
Taylor Charpentier had new career highs with two goals and two assists. 
Ella Spears contributed four points with a goal and three assists and added two caused turnovers. 
Danielle McNeely registered her 14th career multi-goal game with two goals and an assist. McNeely added a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mya Brock added two goals and an assist.
Sophia Ianno scored twice in her collegiate debut and picked up a pair of ground balls.
Sophia Lymberis had an assist for her first point in a Monmouth uniform.
Gia Mitchell turned away 10 saves in the win, her fifth career double-digit save performance.
Monmouth converted 7-of-9 free position opportunities. 
Monmouth outshot Bryant 36-24, including 26-22 in shots on goal.
Draw controls favored Monmouth, 22-14. 
The Hawks forced Bryant into 16 turnovers.
