Monmouth's Strong and Tinsley Set Records, Win CAA Weekly Awards

December 10, 2024

West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth's two season-opening track & field record breakers earned weekly honors from the Coastal Athletic Association on Tuesday afternoon.

Heptathlete David Strong won the Men's Field Athlete of the Week award and hurdler Yasmeen Tinsley captured the Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolade. The two seniors kicked off the indoor season in grand fashion at the Penn Opener.

Strong set personal bests in six of seven events while piling up a program-record 5,235 points in the Heptathlon. It stands as the 10th-highest score registered in Division I thus far this month. Strong long-jumped 7.17m (23' 6") as part of his record-breaking effort. That mark is currently tops on the CAA performance list.

Tinsley, who earned silver medals in the 100 and 400 hurdles at the CAA Outdoor Championships this past spring, continues to cement herself as the most-accomplished hurdler in Monmouth's program history. She claimed the early-season CAA lead in the 60-meter hurdles by breaking the tape in 8.39s at Penn. The school-record time currently ranks 12th in NCAA Division I. She also set Monmouth's record in the 300-meter dash (38.24).

In all, Monmouth athletes accounted for 13 all-time Top 10 program bests at the Penn Opener.

The Hawks will contest the Seahawk Invitational hosted by Wagner on Friday, December 13 at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, NY.
