RICHMOND, Va. – A pair of Monmouth University football student-athletes, quarterback
Derek Robertson and wide receiver
Tra Neal, have been named the CAA Offensive Player and CAA Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.
The awards come after Monmouth's offensive explosion as the team racked up 55 points and 690 yards of total offense in the victory at No. 20/18 Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon. The win also marked Monmouth's first time winning games against ranked opponents in consecutive weeks.
Robertson, who repeated as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week, completed 28-of-45 passes for a program-record 536 yards and three touchdowns in the road win. The yardage total was the eighth-highest in CAA history, the third-most in a game in the FCS this season and his seventh game in 2024 with 350+ yards. In the game, Robertson also set Monmouth single-season marks for passing yards (3,937) and touchdowns (31).
Neal showcased his versatility by contributing touchdowns receiving and passing in the victory. The redshirt freshman had three catches for a career-high 94 yards, including a 51-yard TD grab in the first quarter. He then sealed the victory by throwing a 40-yard TD pass to
Jack Neri on a gadget play with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. Neal ended his redshirt-freshman season with a team-best seven touchdown receptions.
