Monmouth Earns 1-0 Road Shutout at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Ashley Lavrich's goal in the 78th minute lifted the Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Campbell University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Thursday night. 
 
The Hawks won their second straight match and remain unbeaten in their last six contests.
 
Both teams were working to figure each other out to start the contest as neither side registered a shot until the 20th minute. 
 
The Hawks seemed to find their footing in the final 10 minutes of the half, firing off a pair of shots. One of the Monmouth shots was saved while the other went wide. The Hawks and Camels went into the break tied at 0-0.
 
Monmouth brought an energetic start the second half. The Hawks lifted several shots towards the goal in the first 30 minutes while the defense limited Campbell to just one shot that went wide. 
 
Monmouth broke through on the scoreboard at 77:46. The Hawks were awarded a corner kick and Liza Suydam put the ball in play on the kick. She sent a short pass to Lauren Bruno at the top of the box, and she was able to play a high ball in. Lavrich headed it home for the 1-0 advantage.
 
The Hawks continued to apply the pressure over the final 15 plus minutes of the period and eventually closed out the 1-0 win. 

NOTES
- Monmouth moved to 2-0 all-time against Campbell. The Hawks have won each of the meetings via a shutout. 
- The victory was Monmouth's eighth of the season. The Hawks have won at least eight matches in each of their three seasons under head coach Kylee Flynn. 
- Six of Monmouth's eight wins this season have come via the shutout.
- Monmouth moved into second place in the CAA standings with the win. The Hawks have just four matches remaining in the regular season.
- Monmouth has won back-to-back matches four times this season. 
- The Hawks have guaranteed themselves of their 19th consecutive winning season with the victory.
- Ashley Lavrich is now tied for second on the team with five goals this season.
- Lavrich's goal was her first game-winner of her career. 
- Cassie Coster picked up her second straight shutout and her CAA leading seventh of the year.
- Coster now has 27 career shutouts in 51 matches for the Hawks. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth out shot Campbell 15-3 in the contest. The Hawks put five shots on goal while not allowing a shot on goal to the Camels.
- The Hawks took seven of the match's 11 corner kicks. 
- Cassie Coster did not to need to make a save to secure the win in goal for the Hawks.  
- JLo Varada made four saves in the loss for the Camels.
