WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Freshman
Arturo McConnochie's first career goal helped the Monmouth University men's soccer team secure a 1-1 tie in a hard-fought battle with Drexel in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play Saturday night.
The two teams proved to be evenly matched in the first half of this contest. Drexel held a slim 6-5 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes, but the scoreboard read 0-0 at the break. Sophomore
Eryk Dymora had a pair of first half saves while Alessandro Capogna recorded four saves.
The Hawks came out of the half and immediately applied the pressure, rattling off four shots in the first 15 minutes of the period but were unable to break through.
Drexel put the first tally on the board in the 81st minute as Patrick Short had a shot hit just off the inside of the cross bar for the goal.
With 11 seconds to play, the Hawks got the game-tying goal. Capogna got a hand on a cross into the box and the ball landed at the feet of sophomore
Patrick Osiecki. Osiecki passed the ball to McConnochie who powered a shot home for the 1-1 tie.
