QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's University scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute for a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Friday night.
Both teams had their chances in the first half. The Hawks outshot the Red Storm 5-3 in the first 45 minutes of the contest.
Patrick Osiecki and
Kevin Zapata put shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the game, but St. John's keeper Alec McLachlan was able to record the save.
St. John's recorded what proved to be the game's only tally at 59:52. The Red Storm played a ball down the line closest to their bench before directing the ball into the box where Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau was able to knock it home. Miguel Diaz and Max McNulty picked up the assists on the goal.
Chris Morandi and
Ben Zakowski were able to fire off shots on goal in the final 30 minutes of the contest, but McLachlan recorded the saves to preserve the 1-0 victory.

- St. John's held a 12-10 edge in shots for the contest. However, the Hawks recorded more shots on goal, holding a 6-4 advantage in that category.
- Monmouth record six of the game's 11 corner kicks in the match.

Eryk Dymora made three saves in the game, all coming in the second half. Alec McLachlan recorded five saves for St. John's.
