LEHIGH SLIPS PAST HAWKS 1-0 IN SEASON OPENER

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's soccer team fell to Lehigh University, 1-0 in the hard-fought season opener for both squads Friday night. 
 
The only goal of the game came in the 50th minute off the foot of Zoe Schutter from Lehigh. Corrine Lyght was able to settle a ball that was played into the box and found Schutter for the goal.

"It was an unfortunate result for us tonight against a hardworking and disciplined Lehigh side. There are a lot of positives to take away from these 90 minutes as we had some great moments of soccer. The effort and fight from every player until the last second was commendable. We are looking forward to Sunday at FDU."

- It was the 21st meeting all-time between Lehigh and Monmouth. Despite the loss, the Hawks still lead the all-time series 11-5-5. 
Liza Suydam, Marisa Tava, Chloe Messer, Lindsey Husic and Loren Gehret all made their first career appearances for the Hawks in the game. Suydam and Tava were part of the starting line-up. 
- Clara Ford earned her first career start for Monmouth. 
-Monmouth is now 1-1 in season openers under head coach Kylee Flynn and the Hawks are 3-2 in their last five season openers. 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Lehigh had a 10-9 edge in shots in the game. Both teams registered six shots in the second half. 
- Monmouth held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, including a 5-1 advantage in the first half. 
- Liza Suydam and Rachel Ludwick led the Hawks with three shots each. One of Ludwick's shots was a shot on a goal.
- The Hawks made two saves to Lehigh's one in the contest.

-The Hawks get right back to work on Sunday, Aug. 20 as they travel to FDU for a 12 p.m. start.
