BOGGESS GETS FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

July 05, 2023

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After leading the Monmouth University women's basketball team to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, head coach Ginny Boggess has signed a five-year contract extension.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish with the women's basketball program in the last two years under Ginny's leadership," said Jennifer Sansevero, Acting Director of Athletics.

Sansevero added, "Ginny has established herself as one of the CAA's best basketball coaches, and in doing so has elevated Monmouth Women's Basketball to another level in our program's history. The decision to extend her contract recognizes the tremendous successes she has had during her time here, but also Monmouth University's commitment to continuing to elevate MU Women's Basketball into one of the best programs in the CAA."

"The program's success is a direct reflection of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and fans who have all come together to play a big part in our success. I am excited for the future of our program," remarked Sansevero.

Boggess has taken the Hawks to new heights in her first two seasons at the helm.

"I am truly honored and humbled to be the leader of the Monmouth University women's basketball program and look forward to continuing the pursuit of excellence," said Boggess. "I am blessed to work with incredible student-athletes and a high-level staff who make coming to work every day a joy."

In her first season in charge of the program, Boggess guided the Hawks to 14 wins, a 12-win improvement from the previous season. Stella Clark was named Second Team All-MAAC after leading the team in points and assists per game and finishing second in rebounds per game.

This past season Boggess led the Hawks to one of the best seasons in program history. Monmouth won 18 games en route to the CAA Championship and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 40 years. The 18 wins are the most in a single-season since the 2011-12 squad won 19 games. Monmouth won four games in four days and became the first seven seed to win the CAA Tournament. The Hawks knocked off the 10 seed along the No. 1, 2 and 3 seeds to hoist the CAA trophy.

Boggess saw Bri Tinsley be named the CAA Most Outstanding Player Tournament after averaging 15 points per game during the four-game stretch. She also guided Belle Kranbuhl to a spot on the CAA All-Defensive Team after leading the league in blocks per game. As a team, the Hawks led the CAA in three-pointers per game (7.6) and rebounding margin (4.1).

Boggess added, "My commitment to making this institution, our fans and alums proud will never waiver. A special thank you to President Leahy, Jeff Stapleton and Jen Sansevero for their belief in me and continued support of our program."

The Hawks have flourished in the classroom under Boggess, as well. Monmouth posted a team GPA of 3.40 or better in both semesters this past season.
