EVAN NIEDROWSKI PLACES 12th AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 07, 2023

AUSTIN, TX – Sophomore javelin thrower Evan Niedrowski of the Monmouth University Track and Field team placed 12th overall at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday night.

Competing at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, Niedrowski posted a mark of 71.85m on his second attempt which was the third-best among competitors in the first flight. Following the second flight, the Wyomissing, Pa. native finished 12th overall on the leaderboard, earning Second Team All-American honors for the second consecutive season.

Niedrowski was the final thrower in the first flight with his initial attempt traveling 69.21m. He achieved a throw of 79.42m on his third and final attempt. The sophomore has made the Division I All-America Second Team in both years during his time in West Long Branch. His mark this season bested his 70.22m throw at last year's championships in Eugene, OR. It was the 26th time a Monmouth track and field student-athlete has earned a spot on a Division I All-American team.

The performance caps off another strong season for Niedrowski. His best throw of the season came at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 14, where he placed first overall with a mark of 74.20m – a new school and conference record. He earned a gold medal at the 2023 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6, achieving a best throw of 71.07m which cleared the rest of the field by 7.87m.

QUOTES
Head Coach Mike Nelson on Niedrowski's season:
"It was a fantastic season for Evan Niedrowski! He has elevated himself to one of the best javelin throwers in the country. He broke not only the Monmouth school record but also had the furthest throw in CAA history. Today was not quite the finish he was hoping for, but we couldn't be prouder of his efforts. He has earned second team All-American honors for the second season in a row and there is still so much potential for improvement. The future is bright for this Hawk, and we can't wait to see what he does in the seasons to come! Also, I'd like to mention the great work by our throws coach Christian Spaulding.  He does a wonderful job with our student-athletes and in my opinion, he is one of the best throws coaches in the NCAA. Monmouth is lucky to have him!"

Nelson on 2022-23 Track and Field season:
"With today's performance, we have concluded the 2023 track and field season. There were so many outstanding highlights in 2023, it's hard to know where to begin. We had numerous school records, multiple CAA champions, five NCAA regional qualifiers and a second-team All-American. We had all of these athletic accomplishments and some terrific academic marks. We really enjoyed competing in the new conference. The national class competition within the CAA will help our student athletes continually raise their performance standards. We do lose several seniors who made significant contributions during their tenure. They will be greatly missed. But we also have a terrific recruiting class coming in. The future is bright for the Hawks and we look forward to soaring even higher in 2024! Fly Hawks!"
