TRACK & FIELD PREPARES FOR REGIONALS AT WEST POINT

May 12, 2023

WEST POINT, NY – On Thursday, the Monmouth University track and field team brought a group of athletes up to the United States Military Academy to compete at the West Point Twilight in preparation for Regionals in two weeks.

The deadline for qualifying marks for preliminary-round competition is Sunday, May 14, at 5 p.m. Eastern.

Niko Ferrante re-broke his freshman record in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:21.47 – the sixth-fastest mark in school history, as well. The freshman's new personal best tops the record he set last week at the CAA Outdoor Championships by 5.19 seconds.

Jalen Jones took first place in the men's 400m at 49.15 seconds, and Yasmeen Tinsley, who also finished in first place, nearly ran a sub-minute 400m hurdles event with a time of 1:00.68. Jordan Ricketts recorded a third-place finish on the men's side of the event crossing the line at the 55.76 mark.

Dalton Yeust carried his momentum over from the CAA Championships with a third-place finish in the men's pole vault. Yeust's mark of 4.80m tied first and second place, though both Army team members ahead of him cleared the bar in less attempts.

Rickie Casazza placed second in the men's high jump with an impressive mark of 2.05m – just a tenth of a meter shy of his personal record.

Finally, Taylor Boorse won the men's javelin with a personal-best throw of 66.64m. The mark ranks eight in Monmouth history and 56th in the nation. It also ranks 35th in the NCAA East Region, and if it holds through the weekend, three Hawks will be competing in the event at the Regional tournament in Jacksonville, FL in two weeks.
