WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Every Hawk in the lineup had a hit as the Monmouth University Baseball team racked up 19 runs on 19 hits in a win over Saint Peter's Tuesday, 19-11. Freshman
Matt Scrivanic had four hits and drove in four runs, while three other Hawks had three hits apiece.
MU jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first thanks to contributions from the middle of the order.
Phil Stahl hit a two-run double into the left field corner, and
James Harmstead followed with an RBI double to the same spot.
Ben Winstead lined a run-scoring triple over the right fielder's head before Scrivanic drove in two with a base hit to left.
SPU got back even before the Hawks scored single runs in the fourth and fifth on RBI hits from Harmstead and Scrivanic to make it 8-6. The Peacocks rallied for three in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead, but
Eric Sabato homered leading off the bottom of the inning to get things square at nine. On a 3-2 offering with two aboard,
Mason Wolf launched a two-run double off the wall to give MU the lead for good. Up 12-10 in the eighth, Monmouth scored seven times, including another run-scoring hit from Scrivanic and the second of the day from
Casey Caufield.
NOTES AND QUOTES
"Our team did a nice job of playing every pitch today. We had put up a six spot and then had to come from behind in the middle of the game. The guys swung the bats well and kept scoring which we certainly needed. The lineup did a nice job in the first inning with multiple quality AB's and some extra base hits. The bottom part of the order had a big day for us. Scrivanic and Wolf had some big hits and were very productive. All in all, we found barrels and got contributions from everyone on the day." – Head Coach
Dean Ehehalt
