WOMEN’S LACROSSE WINS 14-9 OVER W&M IN HOME FINALE

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team opened up a 4-1 lead after one and battled for a 14-9 win over William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Caroline Brennan paced a balanced attack with three goals and two assists. Brennan was one of nine Hawks to score in the game. Kennedy Fruit led the defensive efforts with 13 saves for Monmouth. Justyce Barber led William & Mary with three goals. 
 
The Hawks sprinted out to an early 4-0 lead as Caitlin Colbert had a goal and an assist in that stretch. William & Mary scored the last goal of the first and the first goal of the second but the Hawks took a 7-3 lead at the half. 
 
Monmouth opened the third quarter with four straight goals and pushed its lead to 10-3. Brennan had a pair of goals in that stretch while Ella Spears added a goal and an assist. William & Mary scored the final three goals of the third but the Hawks led 10-6 with 15 minutes to play. 
 
Monmouth got the first two goals of the fourth quarter and the last two goals to secure the 14-9 win. Cassidy Orban scored a pair of goals in that period.

- Monmouth closed out its home slate with a 7-4 record in Kessler Stadium. 
- The Hawks honored their 11 seniors/grad students before the game (Cassidy Orban, Mary Kate George, Maddie Murphy, Gabriella Vangeli, Brianna Falco, Caitlin Colbert, Cassie James, Shannon Feeley, Marissa Lagera, Carli Mangum, Kennedy Fruit).
- Monmouth had a season-high 21 draw controls. 
- Monmouth held a 36-32 edge in shots in the game. 
- It's the second straight game that the Hawks have had at least eight players score.
- Monmouth improved to 7-1 on the year when leading after the third period.
- The Hawks have nine wins this season when they score at least 11 goals in a game . 

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
Caroline Brennan's three goals gives her five hat tricks on the season and 15 for her career.
- Brianna Falco (6), Cassidy Orban (6) and Mya Brock (7) helped the Hawks dominate the draw circle. 
- Mary Kate George had a team and career-high four caused turnovers in the contest.
- Kennedy Fruit had double-digit saves for the second straight game after finishing with 13 stops.
- Orban, Brennan, Danielle McNeely and Ella Spears each scored at least two goals in the game.
- Mya Brock has scored a goal in 11 straight games for the Hawks.
- Brennan has a point in 34 straight games.
