DELAWARE EDGES SOFTBALL IN PITCHER’S DUEL, 1-0

FINAL SCORE
Delaware (15-15, 7-2 CAA) – 1
Monmouth (4-23, 4-8 CAA) – 0

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University softball team found themselves in a pitching and defensive duel, but fell to the Delaware Blue Hens, 1-0, on Sunday Afternoon at MU Softball Park.

Both teams pitched well and made tough plays defensively in the low-scoring affair. In her 15th start of the season, Billie Kerwood struck out seven Blue Hens while going a full seven innings. After the Blue Hens escaped a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks started to threaten in the very next frame, but a sensational diving play by Delaware's Julz Garber in centerfield took away extra bases and an RBI from Abby Warner. With the game still tied at zero, Delaware got its lone run on a two-out single to left in the sixth and eventually stranded the tying run on first in the final inning to win, 1-0.
