WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Four players scored in double figures but it was not enough as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to William & Mary, 70-60 on Thursday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.
Ariana Vanderhoop led the Hawks with 15 points and three assists while
Bri Tinsley and
Kaci Donovan added 11 points each.
Jen Louro chipped in 10 points for the Hawks. Riley Casey led William & Mary with 33 points in the contest.
With Monmouth leading 4-2, W&M went on a 4-1 run and grabbed an 8-5 advantage. The two teams traded baskets as Donovan's three-pointer gave Monmouth a 12-10 edge with 2:10 left in the period. The Tribe scored four of the final five points in the period and took a 14-13 lead after one.
William & Mary had the hot hand in the second period as the Tribe shot 63.2% from the field and outscored the Hawks 28-16. That gave the visitors a 42-29 lead at the break. Casey had 10 points in the second period while Tinsley tallied all 11 of her points in that stretch.
The Tribe opened the third quarter on a 7-1 run and pushed its lead to 49-30 with 7:32 left on the clock. It was William & Mary's largest lead of the game. Six straight points from the Hawks showed some life from the home team.
Lovin Marsicano had four points in that stretch. The two teams continued to battle as Louro's second triple of the period pulled the Hawks to within nine, 55-46 with 51 seconds left in the period.
William & Mary scored the first three points of the fourth quarter before the Hawks rattled off a 9-0 run and cut the Tribe lead to six, 61-55 with 6:47 to go in the game. Vanderhoop scored five points in that stretch. However, that was as close as the home team would get. William & Mary pushed its lead back to double digits and closed out the 70-60 win.

Belle Kranbuhl led the Hawks with three blocks in the game. It gave her 51 blocks for the second straight season.

Bri Tinsley's two three-pointers in the game gave her 59 for the season. She moved into a tie for 13th for single-season three-pointers made.

Jen Louro's three three-pointers gave her 35 for the season and 109 for her Monmouth career. She moved into 13th place on the career three-pointers list at Monmouth.
