WLAX EARNS FIRST CAA WIN IN 12-11 THRILLER VS. ELON

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Cassidy Orban's fourth goal of the day proved to be the game-winner as the Monmouth University women's lacrosse secured a 12-11 come from behind win over Elon University to open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday morning. 
 
Orban had four goals and one assist for five points on the day while Caroline Brennan and Danielle McNeely added three goals each for the Hawks. Anna Hackett led Elon with three goals.
 
The Hawks found themselves down early as Elon scored the first four goals of the game and the Phoenix pushed its lead to 6-2 with 12:42 to play in the second. Monmouth got back-to-back goals from McNeely and Brennan before Elon scored a pair more and pushed its lead to 8-3. 
 
Monmouth used a 6-0 run that bridged the second and third quarters to take a 9-8 lead with 6:08 left in the third. Brennan had a pair of goals in that stretch while Liv Fanelli scored her first of the day. Elon scored three of the next four and went back on top, 11-10 with 5:47 to play. Goals from McNeely and Orban in the final five minutes gave Monmouth the 12-11 win.
