WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS AT DELAWARE IN OT, 13-12

NEWARK, DEL. – Mya Brock and Caroline Brennan combined for five goals and four assists but it was not enough as the Monmouth University women's lacrosse team fell 13-12 in overtime at the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play Saturday.
 
Brock led the Hawks with three goals while Brennan added two goals and four assists. Lizzie Yurchak had a game-high six goals for Delaware including the game-winner. 
 
The Hawks jumped out to a 4-2 lead after one as Brock had a pair of goals and Brennan picked up a pair of assists. Monmouth outscored the Blue Hens 5-2 in the second and eventually took a 9-4 lead at the break. Brock completed her hat trick in the period while Ella Spears had a goal and an assist.
 
Delaware scored five of the six goals in the third quarter and pulled to within one, 10-9. Yurchak had a pair of goals in the period. Monmouth scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter and extended its lead to 12-9. Delaware scored the final three goals of regulation, including the game-tying goal with 14 seconds left. In overtime the Blue Hens won the opening draw and Yurchak scored for the win.

NOTES
- It was the seventh meeting all-time between the two sides and first since 2018.
- Both the Hawks and the Blue Hens took 32 shots in the contest. 
- Both teams had a pair of free position goals in the game.
- The Hawks had 10 caused turnovers in the game. Monmouth is 6-2 on the year when it records 10 or more caused turnovers in a game. 

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Mya Brock had three goals in the game. It was her third hat trick of the season and sixth of her career.
- Caroline Brennan finished with four assists in the game. It was the most assists by a Hawk in a single-game this season and is tied for 17th in single-game history at Monmouth. 
- Brennan's two goals extended both her goals and points streak. The sophomore has scored a goal in 28 straight games and has a point in all 30 games she has played in. 
- Gia Mitchell finished with eight saves in the game. It was her fifth game of the season with eight or more saves. 
- Cassidy Orban had five draw controls in the game which gives her 68 for the season. She currently ranks seventh on the single-season draw controls list at Monmouth.
- Ella Spears had an assist in the game which gave her 12 on the season and 40 for her career. She is the 15th player in school history with 40 or more career assists.  

NEXT UP
Monmouth is back in action on Saturday, April 1 when it hosts Hofstra at 2 p.m. It will be the second game of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse team, who hosts Hofstra at 11 a.m.
